Walked out to my Jeep this morning, noticed the hinge on the Jerry can holder was hanging funny. Walked around back, both locks missing, both cans gone.
My neighbor called me, said he heard metal clinking together as he was getting ready for work at 4:30, went outside to instigate, but didn't see anyone.
Police said I have to go to the station to file a report, but with no clues left behind it's essentially pointless, and the 24/7 security team that we pay lots and lots of money to to watch the neighborhood basically said "Ugghhh...duhhhh.....ummmm... we will keep an eye out". FOR WHAT? Isn't that what I already pay you for?
The cans only cost me $100, so it's not anything really big, and I got lucky they didn't take anything else from inside the Jeep as the roof panels are off so getting in would be easy. Just the point that you have to be a shitty person and I am getting real sick of dealing with shitty people.

Someone siphoned gas out my car a year ago.
Pissed me off and I had to get a locking gas cap.

Local kids...same ones that knock over mailboxes and steal Christmas decorations. Career criminals aren't going in to a nice patrolled neighborhood to steal cans. Risk/reward equation doesn't work.

I woke up at 2:30am once to the sound of 5 people standing around my Mustang, egging it. I ran outside in my underwear and they ran off. There was so much egg on the car that I initially thought the windows were broken. I called the police and they basically just said , "we will keep an eye out." People suck.

No, no fuel, I just left them in the cage so the top strap wouldn't move around and hit the rear glass (like it is now doing). No cameras, although I did buy a set back in July I told myself I was going to set up, I haven't gotten around to running all the wires I need to make it work in front of my garage / house. (my fault, I know)

Sad to hear. Try this. Seems to work quite well. I had a storage room in an unfenced self-store. Scumbags broke into about ten on the back side. Mine was the only one not broken into.

those things couldn't be more expensive right now if they were filled with printer ink. Maybe that's the reason they stole them? thinking they could turn a quick profit.

I had a bike stolen once that had the standard coil locks on it. Put on one of these padlocks and a steel chain, havent had any issues since.

That sucks. Would be the easiest thing to do on a Jeep, no fuel door, no locking cap, just unscrew and go. Luckily I had an empty tank last night so they just would have been sucking down fumes if they had tried.

No I agree. Unfortunelty, after the housing market downturn, a lot of the houses that went to foreclosure were bought by investors as rental properties, so A LOT of the people who are in and out of that neighborhood are not the kind of people who could normally afford to be in that neighborhood, and it has raised our crime rate (otherwise it's a strangely convenient coincidence).

Sorry to hear that. Theives are the worst. I had my window smashed and a few bucks worth of change stolen a few years ago.
Probably not the best attitude, but I felt better thinking of the theives shivering and hungry when it was cold out, as I sat in my warm house.

Yea, like I said, it's not huge and could have been worse, just annoys me. I keep seeing more and more theft and violence in my area and I am to the point of fuck it, its time to move to the middle of Montana where there is no one to fuck with me for mile on end.

My old roomates car got broken into once for some change, Mine did too but that was when I had the bikini on the Jeep so I would just leave the windows down and the doors unlocked. Left nothing else in the Jeep for that reason; you really want my change, take it, windows are down so you cant break them, doors are unlocked so you dont damage them, the $.84 isn't worth it to me. Have a nice shitty life scum.

In my neighborhood some arsonists were burning down trash cans one night and tried to take my can off my truck. It was locked with a chain so they couldn't take it. I also suspect they were too dumb to know how to open the can in the first place as I imagine they would have just poured the gas in another container if they knew how. - sorry for your loss - were they full?

I've got a Jeep YJ that I keep the top off 90% of the time. I keep it in my garage so nothing gets stolen but every now and then, some bum will go through the console and see what they can take. Even though there's nothing of value in it because it has been broken into so many times, I still get angry when someone steals something from it. The item that pissed me off? A burned CD. Some ass got in, pulled everything out of my console and then took my burned CD for my stereo. Not the change in the cup holders, not the stereo face plate, but the burned CD.

I wish I still had space in the garage to park it. Unfortunately with 2 motorcycles and a broken down car I have no such space.

Yeah, I lived in section 8 housing for a little over 3 years and petty crime was rampant. There was also more aggressive stuff, but that was mostly confined to the gangs and drug users. The windows in the units were just single plates tacked in with a few nails so the super could replace them in a couple minutes. When they ran a bus line out to the area a whole bunch of the kids who had just been victimizing the locals started traveling out to other neighborhoods. That didn't last long because they learned that being outside their own neighborhood was a recipe for getting caught and prosecution so they just went back to breaking into my place.

i couldn;t believe it when one of our clients houses were denied by the HOA for having the wrong roof pitch. Like WTF do you people know about architecture and how can you think every house should have the same pitch roof. I really love the story bout the guy that could park a Lincoln LT in his driveway but not an F150.

I'm not sure I should find that as funny as I do, but round where my parents live it'd be the satellite dish that'd cause problems - only allowed if they're not visible from anywhere off the property. It seems utterly perverse to complain about the cable hanging down rather than the ugly fucking dish on the roof.

I saw one Tuesday, the guy had 4 cans mounted like that but narrower ones so it looked like cassettes. I thought neat but soo easy to steal in the Metro Detroit area... weird.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

And just this morning the copier in the office broke, and the receptionist apologized for the incontinence. After it was fixed she thanked us for our patients. I wonder what kind of doctor she went to see last Monday...
